Your tattoo is always protected with a second-skin or cling wrap, depending on the size and the placement. This prevents bacteria from entering the fresh tattoo and minimizes the risk of infection.

Second-skin
If your tattoo is covered with second skin, you can live normally and shower, but avoid prolonged water exposure. Wear loose clothing to protect it. Moisture may collect under the film, making the tattoo look blurry. This is healing plasma bringing excess ink to the surface and is normal. Keep the film on for 12–24 hours. Remove it under running water by stretching it. If it causes discomfort or starts peeling, you can remove it earlier. After removal, wash the tattoo under running water. Cool water helps soothe the skin. Do not use soap unless it is fragrance-free. Gently pat dry without rubbing. Moisturize immediately and several times daily (Hustle Butter, Easy Tattoo, Aqualan L, Bepanthen 5%). Always handle with cean hands.

Cling wrap
If your tattoo is covered with cling wrap, remove it once you get home. Wash the tattoo under running water—cool water helps soothe the skin. Do not use soap unless it is fragrance-free. Gently pat dry with a clean towel or paper towel. Apply ointment immediately and repeat several times daily (Hustle Butter, Easy Tattoo, Bepanthen 5%). Always use clean hands. For the first night, you may re-cover it with fresh cling film or clean gauze to protect your sheets, as the skin may release some ink or blood.

Two weeks after getting a tattoo
Wash your tattoo three times daily with warm water; fragrance-free soap is optional. Always apply ointment after washing, and adjust frequency based on your skin. If it dries overnight, wash before moisturizing. You can ask your tattoo artist for advice anytime. After 4–7 days, the skin will peel as it heals. The tattoo may look like it’s coming off, but this is normal. Let it peel naturally—do not scratch or rub, even if it itches. This stage may last several days. For the first two weeks, avoid saunas, swimming, sun exposure or tanning beds, intense exercise/sweating, scratching, and letting the tattoo dry out.

After two weeks
Once fully healed, frequent washing and intensive moisturizing are no longer needed, but moisturizing after showering or sauna is recommended. You can use regular body lotion. Always protect your tattoo from the sun with sunscreen. Full healing takes about one month. If the tattoo loses too much color during healing, I offer a free touch-up within six months. If you have questions or aftercare issues, ask for advice anytime.
